Cremation ceremony near Ubud, Bali

The bones lay wrapped up in fabric and shaded by a banana leaf, labelled, and shaded by quite an elaborate bamboo structure which had been built specially for the occasion. There were people inside, presumably the bones' families, and little shrines at which to make offerings. And many an offering was made that day. I thought at one stage that the live chickens which were making their way to the sarcophagi, all ready to be burnt, were to be interred with the bones in the opening in the top of the bulls and fishes and burnt alive, but it seems not. They were thrown up into the air for some reason.
