The cremation ceremony band, near Ubud, Bali

Soon after we arrived, the procession of elaborate sarcophagi in the form of black bulls with prominent erections and other animals (as per the choice in the deceased's will) approached. Bamboo had been tied into a grid to make a platform, and there was a kid inside each square, lifting it up. At the village crossroads, where a crowd had gathered, the sarcophagus was spun around amidst a rhythmic cacophany of gongs played with relish by an ambulant band.
